Hello, I'm Tequis McGann!

Books & Bakes is a business built from my two joys: writing and baking. After graduating from McMaster University in 2015 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in English, I decided to take a chance and begin my journey into writing my first book and getting it published.

While I was trying to decide on how best I wanted to approach releasing my writings, I returned to school to pursue an interest in learning American Sign Language, and in 2019, I graduated from George Brown College with an ASL and Deaf Studies certificate.

However, always staying true to my main passion, I self-published my first children's book, Kyra's BIG Appetite, in 2020 and my second book, Peace: a poetry collection, in 2022. In 2024, I released my third book and second poetry book, Pacing Through Pathways. This writing and self-publishing journey has not always been easy, as there have been many roadblocks along the way. Yet, I just can't seem to let it go. Books & Bakes operates as a publishing company, where I independently write, publish, and sell my books retail and wholesale.

Eventually, my goal is to start selling my baked goods alongside my books and create an inviting space where artists of all kinds can thrive and sell their art. For now, my offering to others and myself is three books that I am incredibly pleased with. I hope you enjoy!
